Last week was fun, but it feels good to move away from the Baja California dry heat to a cooler, damper climate. This wide green soggy-bottomed caldera is well north of the Tropic of Cancer, and, as often is the case with volcanoes, near a plate boundary.

Extra Credit (1 point) – What do you call an eruption that is more powerful and sustained than Vulcanian, but not as voluminous or steady as Plinian?

Extra Credit (1 point) – What do you call the variety of basalt that is rich in olivine?
